Four would-be state legislative candidates, including one from Northbrook, are suing state officials over a new law forbidding political parties from slating candidates after primary elections.
The plaintiffs — all Republicans — also are seeking an emergency temporary restraining order to prevent enforcement of the law so they can appear on Nov. 5 ballots. The lawsuit names the Illinois State Board of Elections and state Attorney General Kwame Raoul as defendants.

The court denied the TRO, finding that the plaintiffs did not demonstrate irreparable harm.

I blame J.B. First he promised us a real map and turns out he lied to our faces. Then he signed this bill in the dark of night and has the audacity to say this is about ethics. Liar liar pants on fire.

The audacity of this bill/law in the middle of the election cycle is stunning.
Very Lennon-like in its’ trampling of Democracy. Cannot imagine this standing for the current election cycle when the IL State Board of Elections allows the slated candidates as they already announced.

The no slating dynamic going forward is fine. Changing the rules during an election cycle is unconscionable.

It was a masterful move by the Dems, but also a bit of dirty pool. GOP was taking a page out of the Dem playbook, only difference is unlike the Dems, they don’t control the legislative process. Dems put it up for a vote and changed the rules in the middle of the game (the dirty pool part). If the GOP votes for it, they slit their own throats with their recruited candidates. If they vote against it, they oppose election reform and a more open process.
Regardless of what happens with the lawsuit, the GOP will not take control of the legislature and are likely to remain in the super minority. Which is what makes this so grating to the GOP.

I guess Trump Republicans will actually have to do some work and knock on doors to get on the ballot. I hate when that happens.
